What is a Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy?

It’s a good question! What exactly is a Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy, and what does it do and create for you?

To begin, I think it is important to state what it is not, and that is that it is not the end! In fact, it is just the beginning! Your Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy is just the start, the gateway, the entrace, the… you get the idea.

What is a Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy?

Your Level 3 Diploma is the first level of qualification that enables you to seek employment, gain insurance or start your own business in the field that you have trained in. Anything below a Level 3 will not meet the requirements of learning hours or standards that enable you to work, as a fully qualified, insurable professional. That doesn’t mean that Level 1 & 2 qualifications are not great, they make fab top ups and skill developing, once you have your baseline qualification. That is why we often describe a Level 3 Diploma as, the ‘foundations’.

From these foundations, you are then open to a whole new world of opportunities and potential. Maybe you want to specialise in pregnancy massage or, working with people going through cancer and treatment? Perhaps you want to go on to develop your skills in sports and work with athletes? Or maybe you are going to use your new Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy to upskill your current work as a yoga teacher, nurse or personal trainer? There are so many possibilities.

Massage Training UK

Strong massage foundations create exceptional massage therapists.

Fact. Drop mic.

What do we mean by strong foundations? Well, that means that you learn the skills, moves and techniques to treat real people, in real life scenarios. Furthermore, you understand why you are doing them and how they are working. Every slide of the hand, roll of a knuckle or pressure of an elbow has a purpose and an intention. These foundations are the key skill that you will then take out into the world and adapt, grow from and return to again and again.

At Massage Training UK, we back up those foundations with ongoing support in the form of our Student Hub. Filled with information, anatomy and physiology and video tutorials to support everything that your learn on your practical training.

Our Student Hub is available to all of our students as part of training.

Is a Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy enough?

100%, yes.

Especially at the start of your journey as a massage therapist, the skills you will learn on your Level 3 Diploma are more than enough to get you going, set up your business and get you booking return clients again, and again. Don’t believe me? Check out some of our real life students Google reviews!

Our big tip at Massage Training UK is, don’t rush. Spend some time to really connect with what you have just learnt and the skills you now have, build your confidence and use every interaction you have with your clients as an opportunity to learn more. Often, the most valuable lessons don’t happen in the classroom, but in real life.

Do I have to do other trainings or can I just do the Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy?

No, you do not need to do any other training, if you do not want to. You could go on to have an incredible and successful career as a massage therapist with just your Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy and honestly, a huge amount of therapists do, just that. It all depends on what skills and services you want to offer your clients and how hungry you are for new knowledge! That being said, you will ALWAYS be learning and the vast majority of that learning will be your own research and experience that you will never hold any formal qualification on. For instance, a client comes in with an injury you do not know anything about - you will research that so you understand the best way to help and support them in their treatment. Boom! New skills and knowledge. When we work with people and the body, every day is a learning day.

However, if you want to specialise or offer services such as pregnancy massage, then you will need to do a course that qualifies you to provide it.

Always learning
